Chair of the Bar Council Barbara Mills KC has welcomed the announcement of new Honorary King’s Counsel. King’s Counsel (KC Honoris Causa) is awarded to those who have made a major contribution to the law of England and Wales, outside practice in the courts.

Among the 9 new KC (Hon) announced today are employed barristers Susanna McGibbon, Treasury Solicitor and Permanent Secretary of the Government Legal Department (GLD), and Douglas Wilson OBE, Director General and Head of the Attorney General’s Office.

Barbara Mills KC said:

“Congratulations to all those awarded KC Honoris Causa today. This unique award recognises those who have had a significant impact on the law of England and Wales.

“We are particularly delighted to see the work of employed barristers – Susanna McGibbon and Douglas Wilson – celebrated and recognised. Just over half of employed barristers work in the public sector, dealing with challenging legal issues and providing excellent legal advice in the public interest.”
