Nicola Rushton KC, Head of Chambers at Hailsham Chambers and Joint Chair of Chambers Management Panel
Nicola Rushton KC is Head of Chambers at Hailsham Chambers, where she practises in professional negligence and commercial law, particularly solicitors, valuers and accountants negligence. She co-chairs the Chambers Management Panel, a subcommittee of the Bar Representation Committee, for the Bar Council. The Panel has been involved in formulating and updating support and guidance for barristers and staff involved in chambers management in all its guises. She has previously chaired the Chancery Bar Association’s Equality and Diversity subcommittee and is also co-chair of governors at a local school. She has experience of dealing practically with problems and issues arising concerning staff, clients, members of chambers and other stakeholders in a variety of different contexts.

John Battle KC (Hon.), Head of Legal and Compliance for Independent Television News (ITN)
John works as Head of Legal and Compliance for Independent Television News (ITN). He was awarded honorary KC in December 2022. He has led the broadcast industry on the issue of cameras in court over twenty years. There is now filming of sentencing hearings in the Crown Court, the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and most Public Inquests. In 2022 he won the Employed Barrister of the Year in Commerce, Finance, or Industry in the Bar Council’s Employed Bar Awards for his work on a Reporters’ Charter which summarises the rights of court reporters and was adopted by the Ministry of Justice and launched at the Society of Editors’ Annual Conference in May 2022.
Rachel Holmes, Chief Executive at Matrix Chambers, Chambers Management Panel member, former Joint Chair of the Legal Practice Management Association
Rachel Holmes is responsible for the overall management of Matrix, including the development of client relationships, marketing strategy and day-to-day operations. She works closely with the practice managers to direct and develop the practices of Matrix barristers and to ensure that a consistently high-quality service is provided. Rachel is a member of the Bar Council Chambers Management Panel and a member of the Advisory Board of the Managing Partners Forum. She is a former Chair of the LPMA.
Rachel Krys, Equality & Diversity Consultant, Bar Council
Rachel has been a consultant to the Bar Council Equality Diversity and Inclusion team since 2019 supporting projects to improve the retention and progression of women and under-represented groups at the Bar. Rachel delivers equality, fair recruitment, mentoring and harassment training for the Bar Council and bespoke consultancy for chambers.
Rachel has been an equality and human rights campaigner for more than two decades and has worked with large and small employers to tackle discrimination, analyse and improve equality outcomes and promote inclusion.
Deshpal Panesar KC, Old Square Chambers
Deshpal is a King’s Counsel at Old Square Chambers specialising in employment and discrimination. He is a member of the Bar Council, former Chair of the Employment Law Bar Association, and a Commissioner at the Institute of Directors.
