Exploring the lived experience of working as a barrister
In addition to the 2023 survey, previous surveys have been carried out in 2011, 2013, 2017 and 2021.
The survey asks about:
- aspects of wellbeing and work-life balance
- working hours and patterns
- experiences of bullying, harassment or discrimination
- practice development and working practices
- Bar Council services
The purpose of the survey
The outcomes of the survey - thanks to the participation of working barristers across England and Wales - help shape and prioritise the Bar Council’s work in supporting and representing the Bar.
We can compare results with previous surveys to identify the changing nature of the profession. We can then make evidence-based, data-driven submissions and representations to government and other decision-makers.
