10,000 Black Interns
The Bar Council is pleased to support the Bar’s steering group for the 10,000 Black Interns initiative. Successful applicants will take part in an innovative new scheme designed to provide opportunities for young Black people at the Bar of England and Wales.
The internships will be paid at the Living Wage. Interns will be given the chance to work in a number of different chambers and organisations, and will also be able to develop their skills and build their professional network.
How to apply for an internship
Applications for 2025 closed on 20 October 2024. To find out more about the programmes on offer and sign up to be the first to hear when applications for 2026 go live, visit the 10,000 Interns site.
Chambers and organisations: are you interested in participating?
Could your chambers or organisation provide excellent legal work experience to at least one candidate for at least one week?
The information you provide will enable the steering group to structure the programme for the internships due to take place in Summer 2025.
Please ensure that the information you provide is as accurate as possible, to ensure we can run all the internships that we commit to.
How we use the information on this form
This information will:
- be kept securely
- be shared only with steering group members
- be used only for the purposes of planning the 10,000 Black Interns programme at the Bar
- be kept only for as long as strictly necessary for the purposes of planning this programme at the Bar
The options on the form are presented in number of weeks paid at the LLW (£13.15 per hour, based on a 40-hour week).
Please note: your financial contribution is treated differently to your hosting commitment, i.e. your funding contribution will not necessairily correspond to the number of interns or weeks you host.
All funding contributed by participating Bar organisations will go towards payments to interns, or towards the (minimal) costs of the induction day and closing day.
Interns will be paid the LLW as a minimum - funding received above this amount will be divided equally among interns (after any induction day/closing day costs have been accounted for) on top of the LLW amount.
